Inspired by Dawn DeAno’s initiative, Stories to tell: Barn Quilts of Boulder County, DMMQG will be telling its own story in a modern quilt. Dawn has selected 25 traditional quilt blocks that will soon be adorning barns throughout Boulder County. We will be using those same blocks to inspire our outreach project: a quilt to raise awareness of our craft in the local community. The quilt we make will eventually be presented to the Colorado Therapeutic Riding Center, a non-profit organization changing the lives of people with disabilities through equine-assisted activities, to be raffled at their annual fundraising event.
What’s the challenge?
Each volunteer will choose a block and interpret it in a modern aesthetic. Bundles of Moda Bella solids are available through Pink Door Fabrics.
There are only three things to keep in mind:
a) each block should be 12.5” square
b) the “background” of the block, if there is one, should be primarily the maroon color (the FQ) for consistency between blocks when we piece them together
c) otherwise, you can interpret this block however you wish, choosing to change it drastically from the original or not much at all
When is my block due?
We ask that all blocks be submitted by the July business meeting. If you are unable to attend the meeting, please mail your block to Lauren Lang (elnorrigb @ gmail.com for address).
